Water is back running at MU after outage on Friday

COLUMBIA — After responding to complaints about a loss of water pressure in several MU dorms Friday night, Director of Residential Life Frankie Minor said on Saturday afternoon that water service had been restored.

“As far as we know, everything’s working fine,” Minor said. “It was late at night and was resolved early in the morning.”

Students in MU residence halls received an e-mail late Friday night asking them not to shower, flush the toilet or do laundry. According to the e-mail, a problem with the water main left the entire campus without water. As of Saturday afternoon, Minor was unable to report how extensive the the problem was. But Johnston, Wolpers, Hudson, Gillett and Virginia Avenue dorms were all without water between Friday night and Saturday, Minor said.

MU’s Energy Management handles an average of 2.1 million gallons of water a day, and has a maximum capacity of 5.7 million gallons, according to the division’s Web site. They are responsible for providing water to about 40,000 people.
