Fight over beer leads to arrest

COLUMBIA — One man received minor injuries and another was arrested Sunday night after the two fought over beer in Flat Branch Park, a Columbia police officer said.

George Bigham, 42, a homeless man, was arrested on suspicion of armed criminal action and second-degree assault, police said.

Officers arrived after receiving a report from a witness who said an armed man was making verbal threats toward another man at the park. They found the suspect, still armed with a knife, and arrested him without incident.

The victim was described a 31-year-old man, who is also homeless. Sgt. Lloyd Simons said the victim was cut on his right forearm and right biceps, but both wounds were superficial.

Bigham was being held in the Boone County Jail on $29,500 bond.
