MOBERLY — No one in the emergency room of the Moberly Regional Medical Center was injured when a stink bomb was activated Sunday evening, a news release from the Moberly Police Department said.

Emergency room personnel were temporarily displaced while police and Moberly Fire Department officials conducted an investigation of the area.

An 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of tampering with service or utility and peace disturbance in connection with the incident. The names of the men were not released because the two are still awaiting formal charges, said Cmdr. Kevin Palmatory, spokesman for Moberly Police.

According to the release, the bomb was hidden in the emergency room to be activated at a later time.

“The stink bomb was placed on the track of a sliding window in the emergency room,” Palmatory said. “Once the window was closed it broke the glass tube of the bomb allowing the odor to escape.”

Police cannot say how the bomb was planted in the emergency room, Palmatory said.

“We can’t say if they were there for treatment or not because it would be a violation of patient privacy,” he said.
