COLUMBIA — A paint and crayon set sold at Toys “R” Us has been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission because lead was used in the ink on the case and in the paint, according to a news release from Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon.
The Imaginarium Wooden Coloring Case includes crayons, colored pencils, paints, a ruler and a pencil sharpener. Anyone who bought the set may return it to Toys “R” Us for store credit on purchases made with credit or debit cards or for customers without a receipt, or for a cash refund for customers who paid cash and have a receipt.
The paint set is the latest of several products manufactured in China that have been recalled. In August, Mattel recalled 9 million toys made in China, citing lead-based paints and small magnets as potential hazards if ingested, according to previous Missourian reports. In the past year, RC2 Corp.’s Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway and Hasbro Inc.’s Easy Bake Oven were also subject to recalls.
A Web site has been set up to help Missourians keep track of product safety issues.
“We have seen several products from China, particularly toys, that have been recalled this summer because of lead paint,” Nixon said in the news release.
