Ten of the 15 teams participating in the invitation-only Tour of Missouri are based in the U.S. It includes the Discovery Channel team, which has won eight of the last nine Tour de France competitions. Two teams, Discovery and the Spanish team Saunier Duval-Prodir, compete full time on the UCI ProTour, cycling’s highest level of competition.

There are eight riders per team, for a total of 120 riders in the race. Each rider races in all six stages, and each team’s score comes from combining the finishing times of a certain number of its top riders. The winning team is the one with the lowest total time, regardless of whether the indvidual winner of the Tour of Missouri is on that team.
