COLUMBIA — The Boone County Sheriff’s Department investigated more than 20 thefts Monday from vehicles that happened over the weekend in the Lake of the Woods area.

The department began investigating the thefts at about 8 a.m., Sgt. Mike Krohn said. Most occurred in the Fairway Meadows subdivision, and Krohn said deputies expected to receive more theft reports in the area as people returned home from the holiday weekend. The hardest hit areas were Lake of the Woods Road and Pin Oak Boulevard.

All of the targeted vehicles were left unlocked, Krohn said, and none of the locked cars in the area were tampered with. Items taken from the cars include CDs, CD players, cigarettes and money, he said.

Krohn said deputies had no suspects or leads as of Monday evening. Anyone with any information may call the Sheriff’s Department at 875-1111 or CrimeStoppers at 875-8477.
