The Missouri women’s soccer team won its home opener 5-2 against Western Michigan on Sunday at Walton Stadium.

The Tigers (2-0) got first-half goals from Michelle Collins and Kristin Andrighetto, but Western Michigan followed each score with a goal for a 2-2 halftime tie.

Missouri quickly regained the lead in the second half with an Alysha Bonnick goal in the 53rd minute. The Tigers, who outshot the Broncos 36-5, put the game away with goals in the 68th by Andrighetto and 70th minute by Mo Redmond.

Coach Bryan Blitz said the game was a lesson for his team about the need to play their best every game.

“You’ve got to be ready to play no matter who you’re playing or what day you’re playing,” Blitz said.
