COLUMBIA — Winning two games against Florida International on Sunday was no problem for the MU volleyball team. But winning a third proved to be another matter entirely.
After winning the first two games, the Tigers could never get the point they needed to finish off the Golden Panthers, who overcame the deficit to defeat MU, 30-18, 30-22, 24-30, 27-30, 16-18 at Hearnes Center.
“I felt like we let down,” coach Wayne Kreklow said. “We knew if we let them get cranked up and get going that we were going to be in trouble, and that’s exactly what we allowed them to do.”
By virtue of its sweep of Notre Dame on Friday, MU was still the winner of the Tiger Invitational, but celebrating was the last thing on the minds of the Tigers.
“It’s tough to come out, win the first two games and have them come out all fired up,” sophomore Julianna Klein said. “We weren’t prepared for them to play as well as they did.”
