COLUMBIA — In the sixth minute of Missouri’s soccer game with Eastern Illinois on Sunday, Tiger freshman Alysha Bonnick collected a pass, spun around, and drilled a shot into the right side of the net for a 1-0 lead. It was enough.
Missouri’s stifling defense held Eastern Illinois without a goal, corner kick, or even a shot in a 3-0 win at Walton Stadium. Missouri (4-0) outshot the Panthers 36-0.
“No shots, no corners, that’s kind of a history-making mark for our program,” Missouri coach Bryan Blitz said.
It was an aggressive game, with 14 fouls called on Missouri and three clock stoppages for injuries.
Missouri’s other two goals came in the second half from Bonnick (51st minute) and junior Mo Redmond (88th minute).
