COLUMBIA - Columbia police are investigating a report that gunshots were fired in central Columbia on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers responded to the scene of the possible shooting near Washington Avenue and Pecan Street at 5 p.m. Tuesday, but upon arrival couldn’t locate any signs of a disturbance. No one was injured.
Sgt. Dan Beckman of the Columbia Police Department said that residents in the neighborhood reported “a couple of really loud booms and people running.”
After talking to witnesses, police determined that at least two people had shot weapons in the area of 710 Washington Ave. One of the suspects fled the area on foot and the other left in a vehicle.
A blue Jeep, gold Dodge Intrepid, green Chevrolet Caprice and a white passenger vehicle were all reported to have been seen leaving the area at the time of the incident.
