Hickman softball team improves to 3-0
The Hickman softball team came away from New Franklin with a 9-2 win Tuesday night behind a strong pitching performance and a 2-run home run from Amy Johanning, who improved to 3-0 on the season.
The Kewpies also got a grand slam from Catherine Stepovonich, who totalled 6 RBIs for the game.
“It was an overall team win,” said Hickman coach Courtney Haskell. “Everybody stepped up and did their job.”
Hickman plays next at 7 p.m. Thursday against Rock Bridge at Mizzou Field.
MU TRACK & FIELD: Derrick Peterson, a University of Missouri Intercollegiate Hall of Fame member and 2004 U.S. Olympian, was added to the full-time track and field coaching staff by the MU athletic department Tuesday.
Peterson, who finished fourth in the opening heat of the 800-meter run of the 2004 Olympics, gained experience coaching the MU sprinters last season as a part-time coach, and plans to continue working with them.
Peterson, who was on the MU track and field team from 1997 to 2000, is a two-time NCAA champion and six-time All-American. Peterson is the current collegiate record holder in both the indoor and outdoor 800.
COLUMBIA COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: The Cougars’ Luana Branco was named American Midwest Conference and Region V Setter of the Week and Juliana Quadrado was named AMC and Region V Player of the Week.
Branco averaged 12.2 assists per contest in 17 games while Quadrado accumulated 55 kills in 15 games.
The Cougars moved from No. 18 to No. 12 in this week’s NAIA Top 25 Poll.
