Doug Luetjen's return lifts Kewpies

The Hickman football team defeated Hazelwood Central 16-13 on Saturday afternoon in Florissant to improve to 2-1.

Senior quarterback Doug Luetjen made his season debut for Kewpies after suffering an injury to the ACL in his right knee in the preseason. Luetjen connected with Marcus Bush on a 25-yard touchdown pass with less than two minutes left to win the game for the Kewpies.

Even though Luetjen’s return revived the Kewpies’ passing game, Hickman coach Jason Wright said it was the Hickman defense that impressed him the most.

“The story of the day was our defense,” Wright said. “Other than an 80-yard touchdown run, our defense played pretty well. I couldn’t be more happy for assistant coach (Arnel) Monroe and the defensive staff.”
