COLUMBIA — Hickman’s softball team found no holes in Jefferson City’s defense in a 2-0 loss Tuesday night.

Hickman pitcher Taylor Cowan had a strong start not only at the mound, striking out four of the first five batters, but also at the plate. Cowan hit a triple in her first at-bat, but was thrown out at home after Jefferson City fielded Katherine Steponovich’s attempted sacrifice bunt for a double play.

Cowan had seven strikeouts and allowed four hits.

Jefferson City took the lead in the fourth and its defense made a number of spectacular plays to prevent the Kewpies from making a come-back.

Hickman is 9-4. Its next game is Friday, September 21 at the Kewpie Classic.
