COLUMBIA — Three juveniles were arrested in connection with a home invasion in northeast Columbia on Tuesday night in which five siblings were bound with duct tape and one of them was raped and sodomized, the Columbia Police Department said.
Sgt. Ken Hammond said police were seeking other suspects in the crime, which “appears to be financially motivated.”
Police said the victims, ranging in age from 8 to mid-teens, reported that “multiple” intruders entered their home armed with handguns and wearing bandanas and gloves. The intruders bound the five with duct tape and then sexually assaulted one female. Two of the victims were able to escape to a neighbor’s house.
The suspects were taken into police custody at 4:30 a.m. today.
“(The victims) were all in the same family,” Hammond said.
The sexual assault victim was taken to a hospital, according to the release.
Police said that the investigation revealed that at least one of the suspects was familiar with one of the victims and that the house was not selected randomly.
Hammond said personal property was taken from the house, but he would not describe it.
