JEFFERSON CITY — A new survey finds about 77 percent of Missourians are wearing seat belts in their vehicles.
The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety says the percentage of drivers and passengers using seat belts has not changed much in Missouri over the past four years.
The coalition’s figures come from a visual survey of more than 114,000 vehicle occupants in June. The survey was done at 460 locations in 20 Missouri counties.
The survey found that 82 percent of female drivers buckled up, compared with 76 percent of male drivers.
Pickup truck drivers were the least likely to use seat belts. Fewer than 66 percent of those surveyed did so, compared with 84 percent of those in vans and nearly 81 percent in cars.
