Child struck by car

COLUMBIA — A 5-year-old child sustained non-life threatening injuries after being hit by a car early Saturday evening, Columbia police said.

The driver, Donald L. Rostice, 22, was traveling northbound on Derby Ridge at 6:38 p.m. Saturday when the child attempted to cross the street in front of the vehicle, according to a police news release.

The child, who was hit by the vehicle near the left front tire, was transported to University Hospital, police said.
