Man crashes into wall after car chase

COLUMBIA — A man was arrested Saturday afternoon after leading a Boone County Sheriff’s deputy on a car chase through north Columbia that ended with the man’s vehicle crashing into a retaining wall, according to news release from the sheriff’s department.

The deputy spotted a vehicle near Interstate 70 and U.S. 63 that was displaying imitation temporary registration and matched the description of a vehicle that had just left the scene of a domestic disturbance being investigated by the Columbia Police Department, according to the release.

The deputy was attempting to pull over the driver, Michael J. Robinson, when Robinson fled, according to the release.

Robinson, 29, drove into a parking lot on Paris Road, where his vehicle crashed into a retaining wall, ending the chase, the release said. Robinson was treated at a local hospital for his injuries and then transferred to the Boone County Jail, according to the release.

Robinson was arrested on suspicion of felony resisting arrest, driving while suspended, careless and imprudent driving and failure to display valid plates. He was being held in the jail on $5,200 bond as of Sunday afternoon.
