COLUMBIA — A Columbia man was sentenced to three years in prison Monday by the 13th Judicial Circuit Court for burglarizing the Big Brothers/Big Sisters center last spring.
Selvyn McMillan, 45, faced up to seven years for the second-degree burglary charge, .
His lawyers worked to reduce the sentence,, and he pleaded guilty at Monday’s hearing.
McMillan was charged with forcing his way into the Big Brothers/Big Sisters center at 804 N. Providence Road three consecutive times in April. After the first two break-ins, management of the center installed an alarm to catch the burglar.
After arresting McMillan, Columbia police found items in his residence that were stolen from the center.
McMillan’s trial was scheduled for Oct. 10.
