COLUMBIA — A Columbia woman accused of stealing about $72,000 from her employer pleaded guilty to one count of felony forgery and one count of felony stealing Monday afternoon in 13th District Circuit Court.

Carol L. Buxton, 51, was charged with seven counts of felony forgery and one count of felony stealing in February. Boone County Sheriff’s deputies said she stole the money from Simon Steel, 1330 E. Prathersville Road, by forging checks and altering the company’s records between October 2005 and September 2006, the Missourian reported.

Buxton faces up to seven years in prison. Her sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 5.
