PrintCOLUMBIA — A Columbia man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of filing a false police report of an attempted robbery at a Break Time convenience store, Columbia police said today.
A clerk reported a robbery of the store, at 901 N. U.S. 63 Connector, on Sept. 29.
The clerk told officers that he was assaulted by two black males while he was outside the store and that one of the men knocked him down and demanded the keys to the store before running off, police said.
After being re-interviewed by investigators of the Columbia Police Major Crimes Unit, the statements made by the clerk were found to be inconsistent with evidence recovered from the scene, police said.
The clerk then admitted to investigators that he made a false report, police said.
Joe Mario Rosales, 23, was charged with filing a false police report and given a summons to appear in court on Nov. 11.
Columbia Police Sgt. Ken Hammond said he couldn’t provide details about why the false report was made.
