JEFFERSON CITY — Gov. Matt Blunt has created a new position in his office to focus on education and jobs.

Blunt on Thursday named Roderick Nunn as his director of education and work force innovation.

Nunn, 38, of Jefferson City, has previously served as director of the Division of Workforce Development in the state’s Department of Economic Development.

The governor said Nunn’s new job will include serving as executive director of the P-20 Council, which focuses on education from preschool to college to try to better prepare students for the work force. He also is to serve as a contact person for the state’s Math, Engineering, Technology and Science initiative.

Blunt said the state will host seven regional summits in coming months focused on building better partnerships between business and education.
