Non-English speakers in Missouri schools increases

These are the top five non-English languages spoken by students in Missouri’s public schools this school year and nine years ago.

2006-2007

1. Spanish — 10,400 students

2. Bosnian/Serbian/Croatian — 1,597

3. Vietnamese — 1,058

4. Somali — 644

5. Arabic — 542

1997-1998

1. Spanish — 2,768 students

2. Vietnamese — 941

3. Bosnian — 441

4. Somali — 400

5. Chinese — 304
