COLUMBIA — A 46-year-old Columbia man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of second-degree domestic assault, felonious restraint and kidnapping after holding his girlfriend against her will, police said.
Police said the man, John David Jones, held his girlfriend against her will and assaulted her at her residence in the 3100 block of Alpine Drive. The assault started Saturday evening and continued early Sunday morning, police said.
Sgt. Roger Allen said Jones took the woman to the St. Louis area at one point during the night and threatened to take her to some of his friends and continue the assault. Police said Jones then drove the victim back up to her Columbia residence, barricaded her and himself in a bedroom and continued the assault. Allen said the victim’s family learned the woman was being held against her will after talking to her on the telephone. The family subsequently notified the police.
Police said they got the call at about 10 a.m. Sunday morning. After about an hour of negotiations, police said Jones exited the residence and was taken into custody.
Jones is being held in the Boone County Jail on a $4,500 bond on a charge of second-degree domestic assault, $4,500 bond on a charge of felonious restraint and $500,000 bond on a charge of kidnapping.
