An open house will allow the public to weigh in on alternatives for meeting the street and highway needs of east Columbia.
The open house is sponsored by the Missouri Department of Transportation, the city of Columbia and Boone County. It is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 24 at the Elks Lodge, 4747 East Elk Park Drive, off Route WW. The building is accessible to those with disabilities.
The open house will present alternatives identified by an East Columbia Environmental Impact Statement that identifies and evaluates options for improving roads in the rapidly growing area bound by Interstate 70 on the north, New Haven Road on the south, U.S. 63 on the west and Route Z on the east.
The recommendations are intended to address anticipated increases in traffic congestion, ensure safety for motorists, connect major highways and improve access to Columbia from the east.
No formal presentations will be made during the meeting, but various project displays and handouts will be available, including evaluation results for all the alternative recommendations. The public is encouraged to ask questions and provide input on the recommended alternatives. Comments will be reviewed as MoDOT works to refine the plans.
