PrintCOLUMBIA — On Tuesday, the MU women’s golf team won the first annual Johnie Imes Invitational at Old Hawthorne Golf Club with a team score of 892 over three rounds. Princeton came in second with a total of 922 and Indiana University finished in third with 925.
The Tigers had consistent play from all of its members and finished with four women in the top ten. Julia Potter won the individual title and matched the women’s school record with a final round total of 66. She was 5-under-par on the back nine and left coach Stephanie Priesmeyer impressed with her composure on the course.
“I was really excited and nervous for Julia at the same time,” said Priesmeyer. “She is pretty amazing. She is just so focused between her ears. She can do this almost anytime she plays.”
After saving par on the 9th hole and making a birdie on 10, Potter began to think that she could contend for the individual title.
“I just played one shot at a time and started making putts, but it was always in the back of mind that I could go low,” said Potter.
The Tigers next competition will take place from Oct. 15-17 at the Prices Give’em Five tournament in Las Cruces, N.M.
