COLUMBIA — Two people were shot near the intersection of Fifth Street and Park Avenue Tuesday evening.

At 6:49 p.m., Columbia police received a call reporting a physical fight at the 500 block of Park Avenue. As officers were en route, callers also reported shots being fired and a subject lying in the roadway, according to a police department release.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered that a 20-year-old man had been shot in the leg and a 15-year-old boy had been shot in the jaw or cheek, the release stated. Police Capt. Brad Nelson said the two victims were transported to University Hospital, where they were being treated. Both, he said, were conscious when they left the scene.

The release stated that the disturbance is the result of an ongoing feud with the shooter. Nelson said police don’t have a description of the shooter, but they know he wasn’t injured in the dispute.
