Boone County resident stricken with salmonella after eating pot pie

COLUMBIA — State health officials are investigating 13 cases of salmonella in Missouri, including one in Boone County, for links to pot pies manufactured at a ConAgra plant in Marshall.

Nanci Gonder, spokeswoman for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, wouldn't provide details on the identity or condition of the Boone County person.

ConAgra pot pies, which include brands such as Banquet and Great Value, have been connected to at least 141 cases of salmonella poisoning nationwide.

The Missouri health department is in the process of speaking to the 13 people who are believed to have salmonella, Gonder said Thursday afternoon.

“We are, as in other states, doing case interviews, asking questions of when they bought the product and when they consumed it,” Gonder said.

On Wednesday, ConAgra pulled its pot pies from stores, including Wal-Mart, which has removed the product nationwide and blocked it on its registers, Wal-Mart spokeswoman Deisha Galberth said in an e-mail.

The suspected pot pies are marked with “P-9” and should not be eaten and can be refunded. More information on specific brands can be found on ConAgra’s Web site.
