Kewpie defense dominates Bruin offense

The Hickman Kewpies shutout the Rock Bridge Buins 23-0 Friday at Faurot Field.

The Kewpie defense dominated the game, sacking Bruins' senior quarterback Jake Morse 13 times and causing five turnovers. The Kewpie defense scored the first nine points in the game. Senior linebacker Aaron Miller returned a 41-yard interception for a touchdown and sophomore cornerback Kyle Ashbury recorded a safety in the first quarter.

Neither offense scored until the 6:20 mark in the fourth quarter when senior running back Tucker Bounds ran it in from 19 yards out.

Morse completed 11 of 22 passes for 80 yards and three interceptions. Bruins' sophomore running back Andrew Byrd ran for only 10 yards on three carries.

For Hickman, Heath carried the ball 21 times for 134 yards and one touchdown. Bounds also rushed for 28 yards and one touchdown.

Hickman now leads the Providence Bowl series 7-4. On the season, the Kewpies are 5-2 and will play at Fort Zumwalt West (O'Fallon) Friday. The Bruins are now 1-6 and will host Liberty (Kansas City) Friday. Both games start district play for each team.
