Temple out against Oklahoma

COLUMBIA — Missouri’s starting tailback and leading rusher Tony Temple did not travel with the team for Saturday’s game at Oklahoma, according to a report by the Associated Press.

The senior tailback suffered an ankle sprain in the second quarter of last weekend’s 41-6 win over Nebraska and didn’t return to the game. He was listed as questionable by coach Gary Pinkel on Monday.

“It was just an ankle turn, it was X-rayed and it’s no more serious than that,” Pinkel said Monday. “Although [the team] has seen ankle sprains linger on. Hopefully his won’t.”

The athletic department could not immediately confirm Temple’s status on Friday as staff was traveling to Oklahoma.

Temple leads the No. 11 Tigers with 351 yards on 71 carries and started all five games this season. Quarterback Chase Daniel and wide reciever Jeremy Maclin are Missouri’s second and third most effective rushers this season.

Junior Jimmy Jackson, who has 62 yards on 12 carries this season, is listed as second on the depth chart. He is followed by junior Earl Goldsmith, senior Marcus Woods and freshman Derrick Washington.

Missouri (5-0, 1-0 Big 12) takes on the No. 6 Sooners (5-1, 1-1) at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Net with ESPN College Gameday providing pregame coverage from Norman, Okla.
