Two men arrested on suspicion of burglary, drug possession

COLUMBIA — Two Columbia men were arrested on suspicion of burglary and drug possession Thursday night northeast of Columbia, Boone County Sheriff’s deputies said.

Julius Estes-Kelly, 19, and Jasmond A. Hughley, 19, were arrested on suspicion of distribution of a controlled substance, second-degree burglary, second-degree property damage, unlawful use of a weapon, receiving stolen property and possession of under 35 grams of marijuana. Hughley was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence.

A man called deputies to his house in the 3300 block of Moreau Road at about 8:30 p.m. to report a suspicious vehicle in his driveway, Sgt. Mike Stubbs said. Further investigation revealed that an outbuilding on the caller’s property had been broken into and damaged.

While driving to the house, a deputy saw a vehicle matching the description of the suspicious vehicle near the intersection of Moreau and Driskell roads, Stubbs said. Deputies found a stolen pistol, narcotics and marijuana packaged for distribution in the vehicle. Stubbs said he did not know what type of narcotics were found.

The pistol was reported stolen in Moberly, Stubbs said.

Hughley is suspected of trying to dispose of narcotics in his possession, Stubbs said, which led to the tampering with evidence charge. Stubbs was unable to say how the suspect tried to get rid of them.

Estes-Kelly was being held in the Boone County Jail on $10,500 bond early Friday afternoon.

Hughley was being held in the Boone County Jail on $19,500 bond.

Hughley has previously pleaded guilty to a charge of receiving stolen property, according to Missouri Case.net. He is awaiting trial on a charge of identity theft.
