Missouri tennis finishes fall play

COLUMBIA — The MU Tennis team finshed fall competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Regional Tournament Friday in Tulsa, Okla. The five Tigers players who made the trip to Tulsa struggled, with only two qualifying for the Main Singles Draw, and both doubles teams losing their first match.

Freshman Mallory Weber beat New Mexico State’s Jelja Juriek 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the round of 64 on Thursday, but lost in the round of 32 to Arkansas’ Nanar Airpetian 6-2, 6-2 on Friday. Freshman Maureen Modesto lost in the round of 64 to Arkansas’ Aurelija Misevcuite 6-0, 6-1 on Thursday.

In the Doubles Main Draw, Modesto and junior Raquel Wagner lost to Oklahoma’s Christi Baxley and Tara Eckel 8-1 in the round of 64. Weber and senior Chrissy Svetlic earned a bye in the round of 64, but lost in the round of 32 to Colorado’s Franzi Jendrian and Monica Milewski 8-5.

The Spring season starts on Jan. 26 in Fayetteville, Ark., when the Tigers face the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks.
