Drunken driver hits two, drives away, police say
COLUMBIA — Two Columbia residents were injured early Sunday morning after, police say, a drunken driver hit them and drove away.
Christian M. Goldsmith, 19, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of second-degree assault and felonious leaving the scene of an accident. Goldsmith, of Boonville, is listed as a sophomore majoring in history at MU, according to the school’s online directory.
Three passersby called police at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday to report that two people were lying in the road at the Stadium Boulevard exit ramp off Interstate 70, said Columbia police Sgt. Lloyd Simons.
When police arrived, they found 36-year-old Rebecca A. Test and 28-year-old Tommy Solorzano, . Police said they were hit by a car and that the driver left the scene of the crash.
Test, who police said suffered serious injuries, and Solorzano, who police said suffered moderate injuries, were taken by ambulance to University Hospital where they were treated and released.
A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper spotted the suspect’s 1993 Ford Probe at the 123 mile marker of I-70, at the western edge of the city, Simons said. The car had damage consistent with the crash, he said.
Goldsmith was released Sunday morning from the Boone County Jail after posting $13,500 bond.
