MU baseball coach miffed by mistakes

COLUMBIA — In 27 Big 12 Conference games last year, the Missouri baseball team committed 28 errors. In the third game of the Tigers’ intrasquad fall world series on Sunday at Taylor Stadium, the teams combined for a quarter of that total.

“As far as the game itself, it was pretty sloppy defensively,” MU coach Tim Jamieson said.

The Gold team was the primary perpetrator of the gaffe total, accounting for five of the seven errors in the Black team’s 12-3 win. No matter the skill level, players made errors. Even 2007 Big 12 All Conference pick Jacob Priday, the right fielder for the Gold team, mishandled two routine balls in the seventh inning, allowing several runners to advance.

“We can’t play that way in the spring if we’re going to have the team we’re capable of having,” Jamieson said.

Priday and both offenses made up for some of the mistakes with four home runs, including a solo shot by Priday, but Jamieson was still unhappy with his team’s performance.

“We’re capable of scoring a lot of runs, but the reason we’re scoring so many runs is because we’re giving a lot of extra outs,” Jamieson said.

The teams will get a chance to redeem themselves at 6 tonight in the fourth game of the series.
