U.S., Missouri flags restored over state Capitol

JEFFERSON CITY — The flags are flying again at the Missouri Capitol.

After winds blew down the Capitol’s lone remaining flag pole last week, the state facilities director said it could take six weeks to eight weeks before two new flag poles could be installed.

But state officials found a way to erect a temporary aluminum pole for the U.S. and Missouri flags. They took the 30-foot pole from the site of the former state health laboratory.

Water and termites had weakened the Capitol’s two 60-foot wooden poles. One blew down Aug. 12 in a storm. The second fell early Thursday.
