COLUMBIA — The Boone County Sheriff’s Department is seeking a suspect in connection with an overnight outbreak of theft from vehicles and a hit and run accident in an east Columbia residential area.

According to a news release, Columbia police were sent to the Eastland Hills Subdivision at about 2:25 a.m. to investigate reports of a person going through vehicles with a flashlight.

The release said that later, at about 5:02 a.m., the Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the Golf View Gardens subdivision after a report of a person going through a truck.

Police said the vehicle the suspect was driving in the Golf View Gardens incident matched the vehicle associated with the Eastland Hills incident.

Police located the suspect vehicle, but when they tried to stop the vehicle, the suspect fled, in the vehicle, through the Greystone subdivision, the release said.

When the vehicle missed a turn, it ran into a garage and struck a vehicle located inside, police said.

The suspect fled on foot and was not located, according to the release.

The damage to the house is estimated at about $30,000, and the damage to the truck inside the garage was minimal.

The Sheriff’s Department is requesting anyone with information regarding this incident to call 875-1111 or 875-TIPS.
