Man robbed in backyard of William Street house

COLUMBIA — A 21-year-old man was held at gunpoint and robbed by two men just after 2 a.m. Sunday, police said.

The assault took place in the backyard of a house near the intersection of South William and Anthony streets.

According to a release from the Columbia Police Department, the victim was approached by two men. One man held a handgun to the victim’s head and took his cell phone. The second man took the victim’s wallet.

After the robbery, the suspects ran in a southwest direction through several neighborhood yards. The victim was uninjured, police said.

Police described the first suspect as a black male in his early 20s, 6 feet tall and of medium build. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, baggy dark-colored jeans and tennis shoes.

Police described the second suspect as a white male in his early 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing dark clothing, according to police.
