Suspended Missouri basketball player Darryl Butterfield was charged with a peace disturbance on Friday in Boone County Court. He is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday.

The misdemeanor charge holds a maximum penalty of six months in jail according to the Missouri General Assembly Web site, www.moga.mo.gov.

Columbia police arrested Butterfield on Oct. 17 on suspicion of third-degree domestic assault after what police described as a heated argument between Butterfield and his ex-girlfriend. The following day he was suspended indefinitely from the basketball team by head coach Mike Anderson.

MU VOLLEYBALL: The Tigers defeated Kansas 30-32, 30-22, 33-31, 26-30, 15-12 in one of the longest matches in Missouri history Saturday afternoon in Lawrence, Kan.

Senior Tatum Ailes became the first Missouri player to record 100 matches with 10 or more digs, finishing the game with a season high 32. The Tigers are now 6-7 in the Big 12, and 13-9 overall.

HICKMAN VOLLEYBALL: The Class 4, District 8-champion Kewpies lost 25-12, 25-15 to Incarnate Word in the sectional round of the Class 4 state tournament Saturday in Maryland Heights. The Kewpies started with a small early lead in the first game, but Incarnate Word rallied to a 13-7 advantage.

“They scored in bunches of three or four at a time,” Hickman coach Greg Gunn said. “We were never able to find a rhythm.”

Incarnate Word found a way to effectively attack the Kewpies’ defense, a strength that Hickman relied on during the district tournament.

“They hit over and around our blocks a lot,” Gunn said. “We did attack the ball several times, but they had a good defensive team, too,”

The Kewpies had 69 total attacks, but only 16 resulted in kills.

Junior Chloe Perkins had six of those kills, and seniors Abby Nowlin and Chantel Hill added 3 kills apiece. Junior Jessi Strother led the team with 14 assists. Perkins also had 13 digs and Hannah Babcock had 9.
