Columbia - After eight years as the dean of the Sinclair School of Nursing, Rose Porter has decided to retire. The retirement will take effect Sept. 1, 2008, giving the school time to find a replacement.
“I have enjoyed my time as the dean of the Sinclair School of Nursing, but feel it is time for new leadership to step forward to continue with the progress we have made in recent years,” Porter said in a school news release.
Porter’s tenure at MU saw many important developments for the nursing school. The school’s annual grant awards have increased 486 percent, and undergraduate enrollment has increased with the addition of an accelerated bachelor’s degree program. In addition, the school formed a partnership with AmeriCare Systems Inc. to create and operate TigerPlace, a nursing-assessment site for senior citizens.
The search for Porter’s replacement by the Office of the Provost is under way. The search committee’s co-chairs are Jim Thompson, dean of the College of Engineering, and Linda Bullock, a nursing professor.
