COLUMBIA — The Rock Bridge boys soccer team’s season ended after a 1-0 loss to Smith-Cotton on Thursday night in the Class 3, District 10 championship game at Rock Bridge Field.
Third seed Smith-Cotton got the winning goal in the 50th minute when a misplayed ball by Rock Bridge ended up going in their own net. The ball was sent backwards towards the Rock Bridge goal and slipped past goalkeeper Matt Albrecht into the net. Rock Bridge, the fifth seed, had reached the title match by upsetting top seed Hickman on Tuesday.
“Our kids played hard, we fought through the whole game,” Bruins coach Kirby Keth said about Thursday’s loss. “We didn’t allow a shot on goal. Somebody made a mistake in the back and gave up an own-goal. We’ve lost a couple of games this year by own-goals,” Keth said. “We’ve given up five or six this year.”
Rock Bridge finished at 11-15.
