Cougars win men's basketball opener

COLUMBIA — The Columbia College men's basketball team won its season opener, defeating Central Bible (Mo.) College 75-49 Monday at Southwell Complex. The win moves Columbia to 1-0 overall. The loss drops the Spartans to 1-1.

Columbia College led 36-28 at intermission then heated up in the second half, netting 50 percent of its field goals. The Cougars outscored Central Bible 39-21 in the final 20 minutes, including a five-for-seven performance from the three-point line.

Junior guard Joe Flanner had 15 points and five rebounds for the Cougars, and Jason Ellis netted 12 points, Trae Hall 11 and Miroslav Lukic 10.

Joel Hall and Tim Perkins scored 10 apiece for the Spartans.
