City to replace College Avenue manholes

Monday, November 5, 2007 | 3:49 p.m. CST

City crews will replace two manholes on College Avenue later this week. On Thursday, they'll replace a manhole in the northbound lanes and on Friday a manhole in the southbound lanes. Both projects will be between Anthony Street and Bass Avenue.

College Avenue will be restricted to one lane during the projects. Sewer maintenance superintendent Bill Weitkemper said that if all runs smoothly the project will be completed by early afternoon. The manholes are being replaced because they're worn out. The frames and lids for the manholes will cost $110 apiece. Concrete and labor expenses will boost the total cost of the two projects to about $1,000.
