Police investigate string of thefts from vehicles

COLUMBIA — Police were dispatched in response to reports of thefts from motor vehicles between 2:30 and 5:15 a.m Sunday.

Purses or bags located inside the vehicles were stolen, according to a Columbia Police Department release received Monday morning.

All vehicles had a broken window and damage to the door frame.

Three of the thefts occurred in the 2700 block of Garth Avenue on the Bear Creek Trail between 3:45 and 5:15 a.m.

One theft occurred in the 2500 block of Chapel Hill Road at Twin Lakes Recreation Area between 2:50 and 4:10 a.m.

One theft occurred in the 1700 block of West Ash Street at the Activity and Recreation Center between 2:30 and 5 a.m.

The victims’ cars belonged to women between the ages of 20 and 46, according to the release.
