Cougars advance in AMC volleyball tournament

COLUMBIA — For one of the few times this season Columbia College volleyball coach Melinda Wrye-Washington seemed satisfied with her team’s performance Thursday in its victory over Illinois-Springfield in the semifinals of the American Midwest Conference Tournament at Southwell Complex. The No. 6-ranked Cougars defeated the Prairie Stars 30-19, 31-29 and 30-24 to advance to the championship round.

“I thought that we served well,” Wrye-Washington said. “We executed our game plan very well and we put them away when we needed to.”

The top-seeded Cougars will play in a noon Saturday title match against No. 2 seed Missouri Baptist, which beat No. 3 McKendree in Thursday's other semifinal.
