Thanks to technology, New York’s Metropolitan Opera is coming to Columbia.

Goodrich Forum 8, 1209 Forum Katy Parkway, will participate in a live HD simulcast of eight Met matinees beginning Dec. 15 and continuing through April. Hundreds of theaters throughout the nation will also show the satellite feed of the performances. About 10 Missouri theaters are participating.

Tickets for the Met Opera Live in HD events are available from the Forum 8 box office or online through Fathom Events, www.fathomevents.com, beginning Friday.

The series kicks off Dec. 15 with Gounod’s interpretation of “Romeo et Juliette,” conducted by Placido Domingo. Also slated for broadcast: Engelbert Humperdinck’s interpretation of “Hansel and Gretel” and Richard Wagner’s five-hour, 35-minute epic “Tristan und Isolde.”
