John Glascock was named interim director of Water and Light for the city of Columbia.

Public Works Director John Glascock will serve as Columbia's interim Water and Light director, City Manager Bill Watkins said Monday.

The appointment comes after former director Dan Dasho announced he would be leaving Columbia for a new position as general manager and executive vice president of Cloverland Electric Cooperative in Michigan.

Glascock has served as Columbia's Public Works director since July 2005.

Glascock had formerly served as the department's acting director, and prior to that as the city's chief engineer since he began in 2003, according to the press release.

Mary Ellen Lea, Public Works operations manager since 2006, will serve as Glascock's interim replacement as Public Works Director.

Watkins said Columbia residents should expect no changes in service with the interim appointments.

"The critical services provided by the Water and Light and Public Works departments will continue at their usual high level of quality," he said.

The change of position will come into effect on Dec. 4.
