Columbia police arrested a 16-year-old male early Sunday morning in connection with Saturday’s shooting at 120 W. Ash St., according to a news release.

When police arrived at the scene Saturday, they found a 17-year-old man who had been shot twice in the torso with a small caliber hand gun, the release said. He was taken to University Hospital.

Police said the suspect came to Columbia police headquarters with his parents at around 9 p.m. Saturday and was arrested at 2 a.m. Sunday.

The suspect, charged with second-degree assault and armed criminal action, was turned over to Boone County juvenile authorities Sunday.

Police said the shooting was connected with shots fired around 8 p.m. Friday at the 1100 block of Grand Avenue. According to a release, officers said a group of people had been arguing in the area and that two shots were fired. Two .22 caliber casings were found on the street, the release said.

Police arrested Coty Thomas Galbreath, 17, of Columbia in connection with the Grand Avenue shooting. He was being held Monday afternoon at Boone County Jail on $4,500 bond.
