What is it?
The Imagine Columbia’s Future draft vision report is a 255-page document produced for the city by consulting firm ACP Visioning and Planning. It synthesizes the findings and goals of Columbia’s Visioning Committee and its 13 Citizen Topic Groups, which were formed to develop a vision for Columbia’s future.
What does it say?
The report restates the findings of the topic groups and the Visioning Committee and outlines goals for an ideal Columbia. It emphasizes sound growth, economic development, good public services and a vibrant cultural life.
Whose vision is it?
The report is the product of a process that started in January 2006 and involved more than 340 Columbia residents active on the committee and in topic groups. In September, residents had a chance to select their top priorities among 118 strategies at a Community Choices Open House that attracted 470 people.
What’s the next step?
The Visioning Committee will suggest revisions and send the report back to ACP for a final draft. The comittee will ratify the document and present it to the Sponsors Council, a group of seven prominent Columbia residents who represent city and county government, higher education institutions and Columbia Publ ic Schools.
