COLUMBIA – The Missouri women’s basketball team started slow on Thursday, but used a 16-5 run at the start of the second half to take control for a 69-51 win over Eastern Illinois at Mizzou Arena.

Junior guard Alyssa Hollins rebounded from her rough four-point performance in the season opener by pacing MU’s offense with 20 points and four 3-pointers. Sophomore forward Jessra Johnson chipped in a game-high 22 points and 19 rebounds for her first career double-double.

The Tigers (2-0) shot just 33 percent from the field in the first half, but they went to the locker room with a five-point lead mainly because the Panthers (0-3) were even worse. They made just seven of 26 shots.

The Tigers never trailed in the second half and led by double digits for almost the entire period.
