The Columbia College women’s basketball team lost to Lyon College 69-66 on Saturday in Batesville, Ark. Down by nine points at halftime, the Cougars were facing a 21-point deficit with only six minutes left in the game.

“We just didn’t shoot the ball well at all,” Columbia College coach Mike Davis said. “We shot 34 percent, they shot 53.”

Davis said a furious comeback turned a blowout into an exciting finish. Sophomore Whitney Davis led the Cougars in scoring with 20 points. Junior Davida Moore added 12 points, and freshman Tammy Thomas had 10 points and 9 rebounds.

The Cougars will host Lambuth University, the defending NAIA national champions, at 7 p.m. Monday.
