COLUMBIA — A Break Time convenience store on Nebraska Avenue was robbed early Sunday morning and a clerk was sprayed with a type of pepper spray, Columbia police said.

Police said a man demanded and took an undisclosed amount of money at about 4:10 a.m. from Break Time, 301 Nebraska Ave., and then sprayed the 36-year-old clerk with a “chemical irritant,” police say could be Mace or pepper spray.

The clerk was not seriously injured.

The man left the store on foot and ran to a vehicle, described as a white 1990s model sedan. He was last seen traveling north on Providence Road, police said in a news release.

The suspect was described as 5 feet 9 inches tall and of medium build. He was wearing dark clothing and ski mask at the time of the robbery, police said.
